Interesting

Texas has three of the top ten populated cities in the country. Yet, Texas has zero cities ranked in the Top 10 US cities best prepared for an oil crisis, which lists cities with strong public transportation networks, access to locally-grown fresh food and robust wireless networks for telecommuting.

Is it just sloppy and poor planning on the part of various governmental and "non-profits" planning "experts" that leaves the three top population Texas cities WITHOUT "strong public transportation networks, access to locally-grown fresh food and robust wireless networks for telecommuting" ?

I do not think so. I think Texas is being deliberately set up to make look like the TTC and the toll roads are the only solution to all this created chaos. They know exactly what they are doing.

Poor planning is right. You can look at Austin, the new #1 mid size city with the most traffic conjestion. Instead of fixing the infrastructure, like adding a loop (the only city this size with out a true loop) fixing exit ramps (that drop off traffic 100 ft before an intersection, traffic is backed up 300ft) and widening the freeways, but they cant because the are all elevated, they add tolls to all of this, and promise it will make everything better. Instead of fixing what is broken, and since they didnt get anything right the first time, we are just supposed to trust them now? All major FWYs heading out of Austin will be tolled. they are holding us hostage in our on city. Public transportation can be the answer, but once again Austin messed up. Most Park n Rides are already well with in traffic problem areas, with no express or HOV lanes, the buses sit in traffic too. Once again planners have dropped the ball. Now, the commuter rail. It runs from way north to downtown. Not that many people living that far north work downtown.

Austin is a blue city in a red state. Rick Perry's probably thinking, screw Austin. They're all democrats. I'll toll the crap out of them and while I'm at it, sign legislation preventing school busses from turning off their engines when sitting for a long time. Let's give those kids fumes and health problems to keep their democratic parents occupied... Just a thought.

When you have a governor in office that refers to the TTC as futuristic, that says a lot ! His dream is going to become everyone else's nightmare ! But, it is his dream and as long as he is governor, just suck it up. We got what we voted for. At least 39% did ! We need to expand to the width of the right-of-way (where traffic warrants), build loops around major cities, and work on eliminating bottlenecks BETWEEN AND WITHIN URBAN AREAS, but build some monolith that nobody can get on, or over. Except NAFTA, of course. And, if you do want to drive on it, the majority of people will have to drive miles to even get to the blasted thing. What a farce. Work on the problem, not build some fantasy ! This is embarrasing!
