I35 Bridge Collapse: Engineering Error

From the AP, "Design Flaw Cited in Bridge Collapse" article says it all. The MN/I-35W bridge collapsed because several gusset plates were grossly undersized. Sverdrup & Parcel were the engineers that screwed up:

"While the NTSB investigation is not complete, the focus of the investigation appears headed in a direction different than many of the political claims that have been made," Pawlenty said.
I guess it wasn't a wake up call to toll every road on the planet after all. It was Engineering Error.
