Dear Friends:
After receiving an anonymous tip, 3 of us brave souls "greeted" Gov. Rick Perry as he showed up for his photo op while early voting at the Courthouse in Austin this morning. When he got out of his SUV I said, "Hey Rick, why don't you stop those toll roads and help save the family farm." He paused for a split second and came up with this brilliant response, "Well, did you grow up on a farm?" My response, "Well, as a matter of fact I grew up on a ranch!" He kept walking. Then Trey went in to the poll to watch the photo op with his "MoFo" T-shirt on (you know that one that quotes Perry saying "adios mofo" to a news reporter months ago.) After the Gov. voted Trey held up a sign and loudly proclaimed, "Vote No on Props 1 & 9". Then, on the way out, Terry met the press after they interviewed tricky Ricky.
I spoke to a number of reporters leaving and told them we were there with our homemade signs, like hundreds of you throughout the state, fighting, like David, with sticks and stones, against Goliath's special interest buddies cramming "progress" down the throats of ordinary Texans -- rural and urban alike. Some reporter asked Terry, "Well, did you grow up on a farm?" Terry's brilliant response was, "No, but I eat food from them!"
We encourage your creativity, honesty and boldness and to use whatever sticks and stones you can pick up to take down these propositions -- and, in the near future -- the Governor who created them. Below are some sticks and stones for you to put your sling shot together. And, please do send us a note or call us (if you haven't already) and let us know what you're doing. Apparently, early voting has been quite heavy.
What you can do:
1. Send an e-mail to all your friends and ask them to vote now and to ask 5 of their friends to vote now to defeat Props 1 & 9. Make sure you ask them respond to you. And, if you don't, you need to call them!
Get the flyer here:

Get lots of information about Props 1 & 9, from the blog of Toll Party founder, Sal Costello at:

2. Go to an early polling site to hand out flyers or stand there with a sign! Just go to your county's web site for locations. Early voting is now through Fri., Nov. 4. For Travis County, we especially want to cover the Northcross Mall, the UT campus poll (Undergraduate Library), Randall's stores in the northwest & southwest, Bee Caves & Lakeway, Fiesta Mart at 38th St., the HEB on 7th St. or anywhere else you want! Below is the Travis County early voting locations link:

3. Work your poll site on election day, Tues., Nov. 8th. Polls are open from 7 to 7. Put signs on your vehicles and set up outside the 100 foot markers.
4. Get flyers out now at busy intersections or stores that want to help David beat Goliath. We want to see "flyering squads" out for the next two Saturday's from 11-2 pm. Send a note if you can make it (and denote which Saturday) and area you prefer.
5. Send letters to the editors -- keep them short & simple.
6. Call in to radio talk shows.
7. Send money (via check to the address below) or via our web site at:

Goliath might be big, but he's not very smart. Let's take him down!
Yours,
Linda Curtis
