Why the hell not? Because Kinky is irresponsible.

Kinky Friedman is irresponsible.

As candidate for Governor he only voted once in the past 12 years!

There were hundreds of candidates running in the primaries throughout Texas, maybe thousands. Kinky didn't give a rat's ass about any of them.

The 10 million who normally wouldn't vote in the primary were not enough for his 45,000 sigs. So he told people not to vote. That's irresponsible in my book, and it has ramifications for every one of the candidates who ran in Texas.

In cont
rast, independent candidate Carole Strayhorn told folks to go vote for pro-education candidates and vote against tollers.

This past weekend he was caught by the Associated Press violating Texas law as he was seen drinking beer while in a car.

OK, so the guy might be funny to some folks. But one liners are certainly not solutions. Heck, I like Bozo the clown, but I wouldn't consider voting for him for county dog catcher.

Kinky has no shame. He's so desperate, his car was parked out in front of Strayhorn's campaign office this week to try and intercept signatures from folks going to one tough grandma's house to sign.

Years ago, the National Organization for Women named Kinky Friedman "Male Chauvinist Pig of the Year" for his song, "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed."

The fact is Kinky is not serious about this Governor position. He's using this campaign as an opportunity to sell a few more books and a few more comic show tickets for his upcoming tour after the November election.

That's the real joke on Texans. But we can't afford this distraction if we are serious about removing special interest Gov. Perry.

To be a viable candidate for Governor, Kinky knows millions of dollars are needed to communicate with millions of Texans. Strayhorn is the only candidate with the millions to take on special interest Governor Perry.
When it comes right down to it, this is a two person race. Strayhorn and Perry.

Is it responsible to tell others NOT to sign Kinky's petition? I'll let you decide. Write a letter to your editor today and tell them what you think.

I can't agree with this. Friedman has my support for governor. Unlike Carole Four Names, he is not a coat-changing opportunist, nor did he sell out the interests of the city of Austin back in the 1970s and 1980s. Don't any of you remember the STNP fiasco? Strayhorn sold Austinites down the river and then sold the river! I hope that Sal is honest enough to post a disagreement here, since I very much admire what he has done on the toll roads issue and have contributed money to his efforts.

Kevin from Shady Hollow,

Do you disagree with my Kinky is irresponsible article? It's all based on facts.

Here are MORE facts...

Carole Strayhorn has been the ONLY State official to fight corruption with us. She's done more than just make promises. She's taken action, BIG action in four (4) very important ways:

• As one of three members of the Texas Bond Review Board she fought and was successful in keeping TxDOT from using our gas tax dollars as blackmail - the Texas Mobility Funds from being used for toll roads only.

• As TEXAS COMPTROLLER Carole Strayhorn’s produced a Special Investigation into one of Gov. Rick Perry's new bureaucratic Freeway Tolling Authorities (CTRMA) and found board members giving themselves and their friends NO BID contracts using our gas tax dollars. The Report described these activities as: “Double Taxation without Accountability” and “Favoritism and Self-Enrichment”

• Strayhorn is spending millions of her advertising dollars to tell other Texans about the Boondoggles we've been fighting: --- the privatization and tolling of our funded freeways and the TTC land grab.

• Strayhorn is pushing for I & R which will that would give the people means to influence and control large statewide issues.

The simple fact is, there is NO other candidate that even comes close to what Strayhorn HAS done or WILL DO.

Strayhorn offers much more than Kinky's one liners. The guy is a gimmick.

Strayhorn also happens to be the only candidate that has the needed millions to defeat Gov. "Special Interests" Perry.

FROM RICHARD...

Sal,

Kinky wants to make a joke of Texas.

By signing his peititon he is drawing the public into his parade of buffoonery undermining the efforts of ligitimate independent candiates.

More insidious is that such efforts cause the public to believe that all independent candidates must be Kinky Freidman/Jesse Ventura type flakes. Surely Kinky is part of a rear guard working to protect the interest of the established parties.

Why Strayhorn NOT Kinky for Governor?

A Kinky Friedman for Governor bumper-sticker asks, "Why the Hell Not?" The answer is simple, "Because he's a terrible choice for governor!"

I've got nothing at all personally against Kinky Friedman and his one-liners, but I sure wouldn't want my sister or your sister to marry him.

The "Kinkster" is nothing more than an adolescent who refused to grow up. While he may be a fun guy to hang-out with in an Austin pub on Friday nights, he is a horrible candidate for governor. His attitude stinks almost as much as his raunchy cigars do. While many people may pooh-pooh that Kinky drank a beer during the St. Patrick's Day parade on public streets, it is illegal to do so. Anyone who blatantly violates the law the way Kinky does, no matter how minute a law, should NOT be a candidate for governor. We have enough incumbents at the Capitol who violate laws, we don't need any more.

Furthermore, Friedman just won't be taken seriously by legislators and other state officials. The Texas legislature has been stagnant for the past decade and voting-in Friedman would ensure another four years of tying-up the legislature in knots and doing nothing. Also I can't believe that women voters would vote for Kinky, simply because the songs he writes and sings are extremely chauvinistic, e.g., "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed". Haven't women evolved from that image in our society? Do they want to go back to prehistoric times by voting in the "Kinkster"?

On the other hand, current Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn is a fiscal conservative who has years of experience working with legislators and officials. Her political history reinforces that she is pro-education and anti-toll taxation. She is driven to improve the state of Texas in many areas and maintains a no-nonsense approach to resolving urgent issues. Strayhorn promises to reduce home property taxes. Unlike incumbent Rick Perry, when Strayhorn makes a promise she keeps it.

We need Strayhorn's intelligence and experience as Governor and at the State Capitol. Texas teachers and children need her. Hardworking individuals and Texas families need her. Strayhorn will do what is best for the community at-large, including assisting the needs and growth of the business sector.

As for Kinky, save comedians for the stage and movies. Vote for Strayhorn because she remains the most viable choice for Texas Governor!

I see a lot of comments from people who are hearing what they want to hear from Strayhorn and not looking back on what she has done over her career. Mostly, she's never stopped angling for a higher position, and has changed politcial parties and allegiances to suit her own agenda. I have absolutely no use for Rick Perry but I do not see Strayhorn, who's son is a mouthpiece for the Bush administration, as offering a genuine alternative except in rhetoric. I'm through voting for people I don't respect, and that includes both Perry and Strayhorn, both of wehom have overstayed their welcomes. Kinky is commited, honest, humane, and a philanthropist. I'd rather vote for a decent guy who drinks beer for St. Pat's day and is kind to abandoned dogs than any snake-oil selling career politician. Dumping tea in Boston harbor was "illegal" too. So what?

THIS FROM LAURI:

It's his right not to vote

Well, Im not sure I appreciate your point of view,Sal. This is what politics is about. If Kinky Kant Kut it, it will shop up in the primarys. I dont need you telling me, in advance to vote for your cantidate. Im sick as hell of both sides, and I WOULD vote for Bozo the Clown, if I believed he could do somthing to help CHANGE THE STATUS QUO.....

Stan,

There is NO primary for independent candidates.

When Kinky told Texans NOT to vote (when they don't already!) I thought "that's irresponsible", but I didn't write about on my blog.

Then when one of our supporters sent me a pic of Kinky's car out front of Strayhorns to intercept signatures I thought "that is LOW!". I also thought people should know about it....

I THINK ALL THE CANDIDATES SHOULD FOCUS ON SPECIAL INTEREST PERRY.

But if Kinky wants to keep targeting Strayhorn...I'll be happy to throw down.

Look at the latest Press Release:

It still comes down to the basic fact that Strayhorn is the one encouraging voters to take action, and she is the one who's recent actions show she is willing and able to take the fight to the robber-barons. Freidman is talking out of both sides of his mouth: "Vote for me" and "Don't vote". Encouraging voter apathy is NOT A GOOD THING. I love a good joke, but we've already got a bad one in the Governor's office. Sure, Strayhorn is a politician, but at least she's a politician that does what she says she'll do. That's the only hope we've got.

>she's never stopped angling for a higher position

Who doesn't? You can't tell me you'd be happy at a lower-level job when you have loftier goals. Part of life is making improvements for oneself and the ones around them.

>she's never stopped angling for a higher position

Who doesn't? You can't honestly say you would be happy in a lower-level position when you have loftier goals. Part of life is trying to make improvements for oneself and in turn others, be it family, friends, or constituents.
