Phase II Tolls are DEAD!

CAMPO Says "Uncle"!
Stick a fork in it!
Phase II Tolls are DONE!

Or, like the end of most cheap thrillers, is this evil character, who is thought to be dead, going to leap from the filled bathtub to grab our jugular one more time? Sure it is.

We just won a huge battle. But, the war for our roads, land and water is far from over. A full in-depth report from what is really happening behind the scenes, and what is coming next, will be on this blog within 24 hours - right here on "The Muckraker". AND, the best, most shocking, "dancing in the street" news yet, is just days/weeks away. : )

Sal, I was there last night but had to read it in the paper to believe it. Thanks for all your hard work.

Also, thanks to all those that devoted time and energy.

Thank You! And everyone else who has invested time, money and energy into this important fight.

Our work here, to stop the special interests from privitizing and tolling our public highways, has an effect on every city and every state in the United States. I've stated since 2004, if we stop the double tax here, we stop it everywhere!

Together We Will!

Great news! Thank you and everyone who is putting time and money into this. It is about time the people are heard and it's time we get louder!

Two things: first, why can't I find this anywhere in Austin news and second, wh can't they do it right?

No matter where you look, politicians are abusing tollways. If they ACTUALLY allowed the money to PAY for the roads driven on, instead of turning it into a business, tollways would work. What's the problem?

ONLY Chris Willis from KXAN reported this properly. The Statesman endorsed the freeway toll plan in 2004, they won't report a balanced view.

Opponents Maintain Counter-Offensive

Local Fox news coverage: http://www.myfoxaustin.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?contentId=2143776&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=1.1.1

I can't believe the sensationalism and spin actually worked in OUR favor this time. I love FOX now, at least at the local level . Watch that video and then click on the CAMPO link on the right sidebar to give your input again in writing to CAMPO. Go ahead and do that input thing again to CAMPO - that's a good thing.

"We just won a huge battle."

Since there has been no vote yet on the Phase II roads, I am wondering how it can be said that a huge battle was won.

Just curious.

A Vote WAS cast last night to "shelve" or "pull out" Phase II Tolls from the CAMPO TIP.

GET THIS GUY!...FEEL FREE TO EMAIL HIM:

Sal,

You, and your fellow Nazis (to use the term they applied to Campo members at the
meeting last night), are dead wrong about tolls. Tolls are the fairest way to
solve the god-awful traffic probs we face in Austin every day. Increasing the
gas tax won't result in roads built fast enough. Gas taxes never have.

Regarding fairness, why should I, and drivers all across TX, pay for roads we'll
never use but you and your fellow Nazis are using or expect to use while paying
no more than non-users would have to pay for every gallon of gas they buy?
With prices now ranging from $2.00 - $3.00 per gallon, any increase in taxes
would harm all of us more than you self-serving hypocrits who would benefit
from our paying for your roads.

Get real. The age of "free" roads in the U.S. is over. If you use it, pay for
it. If you don't want to; don't use it. It's really quite obvious except to
the Nazis.

Best regards,

Dick

Dick,
Toll roads can help us if they are done right. The issue to me is the way our government has diverted money from public roads to form a profit generating machine. The other issue is that so much has been done in secrete. I would love to see NEW toll roads built to complement our existing roads as long as they use private money to fund it and use our tax dollars for maintaining and improving existing roads. Turning an existing freeway into a toll is not something any of us should ignore. Once they get away with it, there will be no turning back and your kids and grand children will pay for it. There must be debate about such things and Sal’s group is the only reason the public has had any input on this issue.

Ryan,
Get a brain.

Thanks, Mark

I can't believe that so many uninformed nitwits say they FAVOR toll roads. My home sits in the path of TTC. There are many thousands more like me who stand to lose their homes and livlihoods so that Mexico can have a super highway to Canada. I guess it's easy to favor toll roads when they don't come through your home. The surprising thing is that Texas newspapers are SO SILENT about TTC. They are afraid to reveal the true damage. both human and environmental, that will result IF the NAFTA highway is built.
