Dear Sal,

TAKE ACTION TODAY, AND HELP STOP THE TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR:

Summary of TXDot Advisory Committee October Meeting

The October meeting results cause us some concern and we are asking for
your help once again. We think you’ll share our concern after you read
the summary, and will participate in our campaign.

Summary

* TXDot has submitted a location recommendation to the Federal Highway Commission for approval of the I35 location. This is the initial 10 mile path of the I35 project. This recommendation was completed *within the last 2 weeks, and was done without review with the Advisory Committee.

* This act caused some dissention “among the ranks.” TXDot stated “this is the law” and that they “have to do it this way.” There was doubt expressed by the advisory committee on the validity of that statement.

* The I69 path has not yet been submitted to the Federal Highway Commission.

* TXDot expects approval from the Federal Highway Commission by the end of this year and will start meetings with the Committee, the Public and the Metro Planning Commissions as soon as approval is granted.

* Funding: There are several funding options but TXDot is pursuing the _private funding_ option. It will allow the state to grant bonds to pay for the Corridor projects. Bonds will be issued to cover any needed funds, which will be used primarily to purchase the right of way needed for the project(s). The land (right of way) will then be issued to companies (Cintras) who will operate the toll roads.

* There was feedback from the committees that indicate there is some reconsideration of TXDots methods and the committee(s) are beginning to question the process. Some very good recommendations were placed before their board and will be reviewed.
