Toll bad for Caldwell

Thousands of Caldwell County commuters and their families will be devastated when the Texas Department of Transportation tears up 10 miles of U.S. 183 between Austin and Lockhart and replaces it with a six-lane toll road and four non-toll frontage lanes that stop for cross traffic.

Hundreds of Caldwell County families will relocate to Austin because of skyrocketing gas prices and chronic traffic delays during construction — and because they'll have to pay a toll or be forced to drive in stop-and-go traffic on access roads.

This will weaken our housing market and decimate our tax base, further reducing essential public services and shattering our economy. We need to get the toll road Texas 130 off of U.S. 183.
