Toller Dwight Thompson Arrested for trying to board a plane with a .38-caliber handgun.

Dwight Thompson, former Co-Chair of CAMPO and Westlake Hills Mayor was Arrested Friday for trying to board a plane with a handgun.

Police at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport arrested former mayor Dwight Thompson, Friday morning who had a LOADED .38-caliber handgun at a checkpoint, said Jim Halbrook, an airport spokesman.

Dwight Dallas Thompson, who lost his seat because of his vote to toll already funded roads, was charged with possession of a firearm, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Thompson was arrested at 5:27 a.m. while going through a checkpoint to board a plane, Halbrook said.

Thompson was release from Travis County Jail at lunchtime Friday after a bail bond was put forward.

Update: After this Blog article was published CBS news did this: HERE.

The Statesman ran this article yesterday, with the arrest photo, before they knew Thompson was a VIP.

After the Statesman was informed of Mayor Thompson's arrest the next day, they produced an article favoring the law breaker HERE. Any gun has weight to it and you'd know something was in the bag.

Yeah? So what? This is Texass, Sal and every MAN should be packin' and ready. He was probably just backing up the air marshall and some stupid bureaucrat screwed up the paperwork. That's what I think. In fact, I'll bet he was working on a classified project or something involving national security so he just could not tell them what was up without having to kill them afterwards. That's what the gun was for, I'm sure.

THIS CAME TO ME FROM JACK:

The Statesman article was professional damage control plus. Picture with a smile. No Mug shot. Remorse.
Character witnesses.

Including public pre-admission of the same thing happening once before. Total defense and big time remorse presented to the public. Couldn't of been written better for him if his legal team and PR people had submitted the story.

Hey, he only broke the law.

Somebody connected must owe this guy big time. Maybe for his CAMPO vote. The Statesman did endorse the double tax tolls.

Cleaning up after this little SOB may help the public relations with the big money guys behind the toll roads. I can't think of anything else he has done in West Lake that that is anywhere close to the dollars involved in the CAMPO vote.

It is so obvious, it stinks. The deal has already been made, don't expect any prosecution on this thing. This fellow likely has immunity for life.

THIS SENT TO ME FROM PETE:

Amazing he's such a bad liar! What weapon was it? A Derringer? Any
gun has weight to it and you'd know something was in the bag.

It will be interesting to see what his punishment is.
